SUKKUR: Power supply restored four days after breakdown

SUKKUR, June 30: Power supply in to Sukkur, Shikarpur, Jacobabad and some parts of Balochistan was restored on Wednesday after four days. However, repair work of 132kv towers in Mehar and Khairpur Nathan Shah is still in progress and Sukkur Hesco chief engineer Yahya Bashir, while talking to this correspondent, has given an assurance that the work will be completed by midnight after which power load-shedding in the area will be ended.

Mr Bashir said power supply to Shikarpur, Sukkur and Jacobabad had been restored and five to six hours load-shedding was being observed in some parts of the Larkana Hesco circle which would come to an end by Thursday morning.

He said 132kv towers which had fallen in Kandhkot and Thul had been erected and lines had also been installed. The upper Sindh and parts of Balochistan went without electricity after 132kv towers were uprooted in a heavy dust storm, coupled with rain. The power breakdown had affected more than 400 villages and towns in the region.

WATER THEFT CASE: On the directives of Sindh chief minister, the Mehrabpur police on Wednesday registered a case of water theft against 12 landlords of the area. The tail-end growers of the Godo Shakh off-taking from the Rohri canal had complained that they were deprived of irrigation water by the landlords with the connivance of irrigation officials.

Following the complaint, the Sindh chief minister directed the police to register cases against the landlords. However, no irrigation official was brought to the book who also were involved in the same crime of water theft. Those booked under the Irrigation Act include Sain Bux Rajpar, Liaqat Rajpar, Mohammad Din Rajper, Ali Bux, Khadim Rajper and others.

25 INJURED: At least 25 people were injured in an armed clash between two groups near the RD-17 in the limits of the Guddu police station on Tuesday night. The two groups were at daggers drawn due to a land dispute. On Tuesday night, they opened indiscriminate fire on each other's positions as a result 25 people from both sides were injured.

The injured, including Asif Khoso, Khalid Khoso, Nisar Khoso and Masood Khoso, were shifted to a local hospital from where Masood was referred to Larkana. Talking to journalists, Khewalli Naib Nazim Ismail Khoso alleged that 22 people were injured by police and some men of the taluka nazim.

Police established checkposts in the area to avoid clashes between the rival groups. Meanwhile, Jacobabad DPO Din Mohammad Baloch suspended Kashmor TPO Abdul Hakeem Mazari, Guddu SHO Bilawal Mazari and ASI Hadi Bux Jamro following the clash.

He went to the clash site on Wednesday and met the groups of the Khoso tribe. On the complaint of one group, he suspended the police officers. Three cases were registered against 20 people of the Saleem Jan Khoso group and three against people belonging to the rival group.
