HYDERABAD: Protest against water shortage

HYDERABAD, July 2: Residents of Hussain Soomro, Yousuf Soomro, Mohammad Soomro and Tahir Soomro villages and Sehrish Nagar on Friday marched from the Soomra Market to the HDA office to protest against shortage of drinking water in the area.

The residents, belonging to the Soomra community, staged a sit-in for three hours outside the HDA office. They raised slogans against HDA and Wasa officials.

Wasa deputy managing-director Faheem Junejo and Qasimabad SHO Siraj Lashari met Qasimabad Action Committee president Mehboob Abro and Soomra community leaders Mohammad Yameen, Ahmad, Abdul Sattar, Hussain and Mumtaz Ali and assured them that work on a water supply scheme would be started within three days.

The protesters dispersed on this assurance. However, they warned that they would again resort to protest if the work on the water supply scheme was not started.

LUMHS: The Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences has announced that interviews of candidates who appeared in written examinations for posts of assistant professor will be held on July 5 and 6.
