NAWABSHAH: Water thieves warned

NAWABSHAH, July 6: Indus Rangers commandant Colonel Naeem Sadiq has said that any landlord, grower or irrigation official found involved in water theft would not be spared.

Talking to journalists at his office here on Monday, he said that the government had assigned the Rangers with the duty to check water theft and added that the Rangers would work with the provincial and district governments.

He said that personnel of the Indus Rangers had already started patrolling the areas of the Nusrat and Daad irrigation divisions and if anyone was found involved in water theft, they would be dealt with according to the law.

He said that the Rangers had also formed a complaint cell with the following telephone numbers 0241-9370283, 9370287, where growers could lodge their complaints. Replying to a question, he said that the Rangers would work in coordination with the provincial irrigation department besides the district government.

The Rangers would not be deployed at any one place but would raid different places on receiving complaints along with irrigation officials, he said. The commandant said that supply of irrigation water to tail- end growers would also be ensured.
