GUJRAT, July 7: Around 10,000 computerized national identity card seekers have become rolling stones between the offices of National Database and Registration Authority and old registration offices, Dawn learnt here on Wednesday.

A number of card seekers complained that Nadra swift centres in Gujrat, Kharian and Serai Alamgir had failed to issue cards with ordinary fee in a month and an urgent card in two weeks.

A card seeker told this scribe on condition of anonymity that he submitted his form four month ago but was still awaiting the card. Many others joined him and claimed that when they visited the Nadra offices they were told that their data had been sent for verification to head office in Islamabad.

Some officials suggested them to visit the old registration office as the Islamabad office had sent their data there for verification and the staff at old office might not have sent the confirmation report.

The aggrieved people alleged that the staff deployed at the old office was non cooperative and demanded bribe to issue a confirmation certificate. A man claimed that he thrice visited the old office but the staff did not tell him anything.

He said a 'wise' man advised him to offer bribe to the staff and the trick worked on the fourth visit. Meanwhile, sources claimed that more than 8,000 forms were awaiting verification at the old office but the staff was waiting for applicants to get bribe.

ARRESTED: The district police claimed to have arrested seven members of three gangs of dacoits and recovered booty and illicit weapons from their possession. DPO Raja Munawar Hussain told newsmen that the police had arrested Hasnain Shah, Rafique and Qasim Shah of the Nenay Shah gang and seized a motorcycle, three 30 bore pistols and looted goods.

He said the arrested accused had confessed to have killed a motorcycle rickshaw driver, Abbas, during a dacoity bid on Madina Syedan Road on May 3. He said the police also arrested ring leader Shahzad and his accomplice Dilawar of the Shahbaza Kashmiri gang and recovered two 30 bore pistols, two motorcycles and looted valuables.

The DPO said that ring leader Kashif and Nazir Abbas of the Kashu gang were also arrested. The police seized two 30 bore pistols and booty, including a wagon (LHH-1854), from them. The police also arrested two proclaimed offenders Arshad Shah and Sajid Shah and recovered two 222 rifles from their possession, he added.
