SAHIWAL: Protest against Mepco
SAHIWAL, July 8: Hundreds of residents of Mohallah Farid Ganj took out a protest procession here on Thursday against Multan Electric Power Company officers. The procession started from Masjid Aziz Colony on the GT Road and reached the office of the superintendent engineer (operation).
The protesters said the area transformer had burnt six times during the last 18 days, and each time it was replaced with a repaired transformer instead of the new one. They threatened that in case the new transformer was not provided in the area, they would block the GT Road.
The deputy manager (operation) assured the protesters that a new transformer would be installed in their locality and action taken against SDO Shahid Husain and the other staff found negligent in discharge of their duty.
THREE KILLED: Three people were killed and 19 others injured in separate road accidents here on Thursday. Munir and Safeer were killed and Abdullah injured when their motorcycle fell into a ditch on Sahiwal-Arifwala Road near Dilluwala Banglow. Abdullah was taken to hospital where he died.
A bus carrying a marriage party overturned near Jahan Khan on the Sahiwal-Pakpattan Road. Some 19 passengers sustained injuries and were taken to hospital where the condition of Munawwar, Pervaiz, Allah Ditta, Amin, Shahida and Fatima was stated to be serious.
