HYDERABAD: Arrests criticized
HYDERABAD, July 11: Jeay Sindh Muttahida Mahaz activists held a protest demonstration outside the press club here on Sunday against a police raid on the house of party vice-chairman Khalil Ahmad Khaskheli , torture of women and children and arrest of Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz and Jeay Sindh Mahaz workers.
Speaking on the occasion, JSMM leaders Sikandar Soomro and Munawar Mari accused agencies of implicating leaders of nationalist parties in false cases. They alleged that the federal government had launched an operation against nationalist forces in Sindh and Balochistan.
The party leaders maintained that the operation was aimed at smoothing the way for taking over natural resources of the provinces and construction of the Kalabagh dam and the greater Thal canal.
They said such measures could not break the spirit of nationalist parties' workers. They demanded that the operation should be stopped forthwith.
DISPLACED FAMILIES: Displaced families, under the banner of Sindhi Qaumi Saath, held a demonstration outside the press club to protest against their non-rehabilitation.
Speaking on the occasion, Hafeez Qureshi, Khamiso Chandio, Dur Mohammad Soomro and others said the government had earmarked 60 acres of land in Sehrish Nagar, phase-II, for rehabilitation of 650 families which had been displaced due to ethnic riots of 1988-90. However, they said land grabbers were trying to take over possession of the land and they had already grabbed eight acres which they had sold out to people.
