HYDERABAD: Shortage of drinking water deplored
HYDERABAD, July 14: Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal MPA Abdul Rehman Rajput has expressed concern over shortage of drinking water in the district. In a statement issued here on Wednesday , he regretted that residents were staging protest demonstrations every day but authorities concerned had taken no notice of their plight.
He pointed out that the Hyderabad Development Authority was an integral part of the district government but it was being run on ad hoc basis. He demanded that the HDA should be handed over to the district government. He further demanded that the director general of the HDA and the managing director of the Water and Sanitation Agency should be appointed on permanent basis.
The MPA said former Sindh Governor Mohammedmian Soomro had announced a package of Rs500 million to improve the water supply system and sewerage of Hyderabad but the amount had not been released. He said the fund should be released without delay.
DEMONSTRATION: A group of people from Tandojam staged a demonstration outside the local press club on the second consecutive day on Wednesday in support of ASI Sher Mohammad.
They claimed that the ASI was being defamed by the district public safety commission, Hyderabad, simply because he was in police. Meanwhile, the DPSC assailed the persons who were protesting against the commission to save their own skins.
A spokesman for the DPSC said that the commission's findings against the Tandojam police were correct. He said that it was established that Anwar Shahzad was implicated in a false narcotics case under a conspiracy.
