GUJRANWALA: Hepatitis common ailment in prison
GUJRANWALA, July 26: Every fifth prisoner has been suffering from hepatitis B and C for drinking dirty water and eating substandard food. This was the finding of a health department team which checked up prisoners.
According to a report issued by the team on Monday, 202 prisoners were checked. Of them 42 were found suffering from hepatitis C and B and other diseases. The report attributed prevalence of the disease to poor quality of water and food. The team has sent its report to the prisons IG and health department.
MMA DRIVE: The Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal would launch a campaign against obscenity being promoted through stage plays and announced its plan at a meeting here on Monday.
The meting was presided over by MPA Ghulam Farid Hazarvi and attended by district Jamaat-i-Islami amir Prof Abdul Rehman Madni and leaders of other religious parties.
They announced that an MMA delegation would meet the DCO, district and city Nazims and police officers to apprise them of the situation. If they failed to take any action against them, MMA activists would attack on theatres.
They cast blame on the district administration for promotion of vulgarity and obscenity. It is learnt that the district and city administration has constituted special teams to raid theatres to "eliminate vulgarity being spread in the name of art."
KILLS AUNT: A man allegedly killed his aunt for not providing him shelter in Eminabad on Monday. Police said Saifullah was involved in a murder case. He went to his aunt Kishwar to take shelter in her house. On her refusal to do so, he became infuriated and attacked her with a knife and fled from the scene after killing her. She was the mother of seven children. Police have registered a case.
IMPOSTOR HELD: An impostor was arrested by the Eminabad police on Monday. Police said Zahid introduced himself as an income tax officer to some brick kiln owners and demanded bribe to provide them relief. The kiln owners informed the police which arrested him.
