KHAIRPUR, July 29: Disputes between Solangi and Jagirani and Maitlo and Kandhero tribes which claimed lives of 13 people in clashes last week remain unresolved.

Business activities and transport remained suspended in the Kingri taluka, particularly in Wada Machhi, Mang Tagar Hajina Shah, Kot Pul, Kot Mir Mohammad, Talo Bhando, Ahmadpur, Tando Nazar Ali, Tando Masti and Kolab Jial towns, as tension prevailed in the area.

Elders of the Solangi tribe held a meeting in the Gagri village which observed that the Solangis would not initiate any attack on their rivals if they were not attacked. The meeting also criticized the local police's role during the clashes in which seven Solangis were killed. It demanded a high-level inquiry into the matter.

Meanwhile, Mailto and Solangi families, which are in minority in some villages, are shifting to safe places. On the other hand, the regional police officer, Sukkur, has demoted the SHO of Ahmadpur, inspector Niaz Ahmad Farooqui, to sub-inspector for negligence in duty and ordered him to report at Police Lines.

When contacted, Pir Syed Mujtaba Shah Rashidi of the Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz said he was trying to contact elders of the tribes and political and religious leaders to resolve the disputes between the tribes.

On Wednesday night, the Ahmadpur police registered a case against 21 persons on the complaint of Mehmood Faqir Jagirani. The complainant stated that Mohammad Chhuttal Jagirani was killed and Naban was injured in firing of the accused, including Ghulam Qadir, Ameer Bux, Ghulam Sarwar, Farooq, Chhuttal, Noor Mohammad Zameer, Imam Dino, Usman, Bashir, Hafeez, Amanullah and Hidayatullah.

ARRESTED: The Tando Masti and Ranipur police claimed to have arrested three bandits following an encounter at Shaikh Tayyab Pul, Tando Masti police station jurisdiction, on Wednesday night.On a tip-off, police surrounded the area and engaged the bandits.

Deeno Mari, Mureed Narejo and Allah Rakhio alias Kuraro Ujjan were arrested after the encounter. Police recovered two kalashnikovs, one gun and a large quantity of bullets from their possession.

NAZIM: District Nazim Nafisa Shah has said that elected representatives of local bodies as well as officials of the education department have a primary role to play in increasing the enrolment of girl students.

She was addressing a gathering of nazims, naib nazims and councillors of Khairpur and Gambat talukas, education officials and representatives of various non-government organizations at "Education for All Project", organized by the Indus Resource Centre at the Government Naz Pilot School here on Thursday.

She said that implementing and funding agencies played a secondary role in the project, while local bodies representatives and education officials had a primary role to play.

Stressing that responsibility of the success of the project lay on the shoulders of education officials, she said that elected representatives would have to work with the IRC to ensure the enrolment of girl students.
