KHAIRPUR: Marriage row settled
KHAIRPUR, Aug 1: A meeting held at the Dargah of Pir-jo-Goth on Sunday settled a Kandhro-Maitlo dispute by imposing a fine of Rs1 million on the Maitlo tribe as punishment for the inter-tribe marriage of Nazeer Maitlo and Zainab Kandhro, the reason behind the dispute.
The couple would be allowed to live together after payment of the fine amount and till then, Zainab would stay in the house of an elder of the Maitlo tribe, Khair Mohammad.
The Faisla Committee of the Dargah, with Hafiz Asadullah Mahar as its chairman, also decided that both the parties would pay Rs800,000 each to heirs of deceased Mohammad Ali and Mubarak of the Kandhro tribe and Abdul Hussain Maitlo and Mohammad Fareed of the Maitlo tribe, who had been killed on July 26 during a clash between the tribes.
Kandhro tribesmen would also pay Rs500,000 to heirs of five women they had kidnapped. The fine amount would be deposited with the Faisla Committee which would pay it to parties concerned.
The committee got an assurance from the tribes that they would not resort to clashes in future. The committee announced its verdict after hearing elders of Kandhro and Maitlo tribes.
The elders participated in the talks in presence of Mushirs, Pir Bagah Shah of Ranipur and Wadero Aijaz Bughio from the Kandhro side and Ghulam Mustafa Abro and Maula Bux Mahar from the Maitlo side. The elders of the tribes were brought from their villages to Pir-jo-Goth in police escort.
