DADU: Dist council decries inflated utility bills
DADU, Aug 4: The district council has appealed to the federal ministers for water and power and petroleum and natural resources to take action against officials of the Sui Southern Gas Company and Hesco for issuing inflated and detection bills.
The district council unanimously adopted a resolution to this effect in its Wednesday's session. Speaking on the occasion, Mohammad Ibrahim Rind accused the Johi SDO of Hesco of issuing detection and inflated bills and said that illegal connections had been provided in the taluka and to cover losses the Hesco officials resorted to loadshedding for hours.
Nazeer Ahmed Leghari and Syed Zahid Hussain said that detection bills were being issued in Dadu, Mehar, Khairpur Nathan Shah, Sehwan and Kotri talukas and the Hesco officials were not installing meters in Sehwan as provision of illegal connections continued by them.
Shamim Akhtar criticised issuing of inflated gas bills by the SSGC officials in Kotri and said that gas supply remained suspended in parts of the taluka. Nisar Shaikh, Syed Hussain Shah, Ali Mohammad Soomro and others demanded an end to load sheding of gas and issuance of inflated bills.
Mr Shah said that the headmasters of primary and secondary schools were recovering different fees from students but they were not provided facilities. He alleged that textbooks provided by the government to education department were not distributed among students and instead sold to booksellers.
He said that the Sindh government was providing ghee and monthly stipend of Rs100 for each girl student but the same were not being distributed. He demanded an inquiry into the embezzlement of textbooks, ghee and stipend.
Nisar Ahmed Shaikh's resolution, calling for provision of funds for his union council, was also approved. He said that funds were not allocated for his UC under the Annual Development Programme in the district budget.
The session also discussed the issue of computerized national identity cards and noted that various villages had not been visited by the NADRA officials. Mohammad Nawaz Bughio and Shamsuddin Memon said that hundreds of villagers were not provided CNICs and accused the NADRA officials of demanding bribe from the candidates.
The council called upon the chairman of the NADRA to order an inquiry into the matter and take action against corrupt officials. The session also adopted resolution against recovery of market committee fee on roads, especially in Kotri taluka. It demanded an end to recovery of illegal tax and action against contractors of market committee.
Imamzadi Shaikh called for appointment of a senior doctor as the EDO of health in the district and said that most of health facilities were without medicines and staff. Maharuddin Koreji, in his resolution, demanded action against drugs dens which were operating under patronage of police.
