GUJRANWALA: Doctor's relatives beaten up by mob

GUJRANWALA, Aug 9: As many as 15 people attacked the house of a senior gynaecologist and beat her husband and other relatives on Monday for wrong treatment of their relative.

It is alleged that Dr Nabeela Bashir could not properly treat a woman and referred her to a hospital in Lahore when her conditon deteriorated. The relatives of the woman burst into the doctor's house at Civil Lines and thrashed her husband, Advocate Bashir Bhutta, and her brother in-law Saeed Bhutta (a former secretary of the bar association) and Public Safety Commission member Ashraf Bhutta.

They also smashed window panes and other households. Later, they left the house firing in the air and threatening the family with dire consequences. They also dragged patients at the hospital where the doctor was posted.

They tried to snatch the purse of the gynaecologist and got her signature on a blank paper. Civil Lines police have registered a case against the intruders and are investigating.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Medical Association and lawyers strongly protested the incident at their separate meetings. They warned that they would go on strike if the assailants were not arrested within next 24 hours.

SHOT DEAD: An industrialist was shot dead while his grandson injured by his business rivals at Khiali on Monday. Reports said Baba Allah Rakha was sitting at his steel factory along with his grandson, Kashif, when Waheed, Waqas and Saeed came there. They shot dead the industrialist and injured his grandson, who was hospitalized.
