SUKKUR: Protest against power failures

SUKKUR, Aug 11: Hundreds of people held a demonstration here on Wednesday to protest against frequent and prolonged power breakdowns.

The protesters burnt tyres on Qureshi Road and raised slogans against the Hesco officials who, according to them, were involved in electricity theft.

They alleged that due to undeclared and frequent load shedding, normal life activities had been paralyzed and business badly affected badly. Meanwhile, scores of people staged a sit in near the fruit and vegetable market here and blocked the road for an hour by burning tyres. They raised slogans against Hesco for resorting to prolonged load shedding and failing to prevent breakdowns.

KILLED: A Jatoi tribesman, Ali Murad, son of Ali Sher Jatoi, was gunned down allegedly by the Mahar tribesmen near Khahi bus stand in the Chak police station jurisdiction, Shikarpur district, on Wednesday.

A relatives of the deceased told police that Mir Hassan Mahar and his accomplices were involved in the murder. Tension has mounted in the area after the murder. Meanwhile, another man was gunned down by armed attackers in Mohammad Hashim Gopang village near Thari Mirwah, Khairpur district, on Tuesday night.

The armed men entered the village and opened fire at the house of ASI Shah Nawaz Gopang, killing his elder brother Qadir Bukhsh Gopang on the spot. Sajawal Khan, the nephew of the deceased, has lodged an FIR with the Thari Mirwah police against Naib Nazim, Sabbar Rind union council, Nisar Ali, Imamuddin, Waqar Hussain, Ansar Ali and two others. However, no arrest was reported till the filing of this report.

FIR: An FIR was registered against a councillor of Daharki union council on Wednesday for trying to criminally assault a girl a week ago. The councillor, Abdul Rasheed Suhrawardi, with his accomplices Adnan and Arshad, barged into the house of Mohammad Latif Rajput in Siddiq Colony, Daharki, and allegedly tried to rape his daughter but failed due to the resistance of the inmates.

On Wednesday, a rally was taken out in Daharki to protest against the incident. The protesters also staged a sit-in and demanded arrest of the councillor. TPO Rana Sanaullah rushed to the scene and asked the protesters to end the blockade. The protesters went to the Daharki police station and staged a sit-in outside it. Later, the Ubauro police registered the FIR but did not arrest anyone.
