HYDERABAD: Protests against US attacks on shrines

HYDERABAD, Aug 20: Activists of the Anjuman Ghulaman-i- Qalandar Lal Shahbaz, Tando Thoro, staged a demonstration outside the press club after the Juma prayers to protest against the US attack on the shrine of Hazrat Ali (RA) in Iraq.

They raised slogans against sacrilegious acts of the US military in holy cities of Najaf Ashraf and Kufa. Speaking on the occasion, Nizamul Hyderi, Moazzam Shah Jehanian and others called upon the UNO to intervene and stop bombardment on shrines and other religious places. They also raised slogans of "Shia Sunni Bhai Bhai".

JSQM: Activists of the Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz on Friday staged a demonstration outside the central jail against the alleged excesses of jail officials on activists of the party.

Speaking on the occasion, Sagar Hanif Burdi, Noor Nabi Halepoto and others alleged that prisoners belonging to the JSQM had been kept in solitary confinement and subjected to torture.

They warned if the excesses against Zafar Korejo and other political prisoners were not stopped, the activists of the party would setup a protest camp outside central jail.

When contacted on telephone, a jail official said the allegations levelled by the JSQM were totally false. He said the interviews of prisoners were allowed only to family members.

He said activists of nationalist parties come in crowds, raise anti-state slogans and want to meet imprisoned activists which could not be allowed under the rules. He said some party workers tried to enter the jail premises from the wrong gate which was not meant for visitors and they were sent back by police which annoyed them.
