HYDERABAD: Environmental clubs in schools proposed

HYDERABAD, Aug 22: The deputy director of the Environmental Protection Agency, Hyderabad, Mashood Siddiqui has called upon management and students of schools and colleges to form environmental clubs and play their role in creating environmental awareness among the people.

Speaking at the independence day celebrations organized by the City Kehkashan School, Hyderabad, on Friday, he said the independence day not only recalled sacrifices of our elders for achieving an independent country but also to assess our own services rendered to the country.

The headmaster of the school, Aijaz Ali also spoke on the occasion and said the management of the school was trying its level best to inculcate national spirit among its students.

Mr Siddiqui distributed prizes among the students participating in the national song competition. Anti-polio drive: Eight sub-committees, one for each taluka of the district, were constituted to monitor, accelerate and enhance the coverage of anti-polio vaccination campaign from Aug 24 to 26.

This was decided in a meeting convened for the eradication of polio under the chairmanship of EDO community development, Ibrahim Qureshi, on Saturday. Speaking on the occasion, Mr Qureshi said the committees headed by DDO social welfare of each taluka would comprise one representative each from health, social welfare and NGOs as members.

The committees were assigned to motivate people of their areas by organizing walks, distributing informative literature, arrange participation of women workers in the campaign and monitor the process of vaccination.
