GUJRANWALA: Challans for razing 31 'dangerous' buildings

GUJRANWALA, Aug 23: The city tehsil council here on Monday submitted challans to the court for demolishing 31 dilapidated buildings. Reports said the council conducted a survey and sent notices to owners of 321 rundown buildings for repairing the same within two weeks. However, the owners of about 31 buildings refused to repair the buildings.

Meanwhile, a spokesman for the tehsil council said around 40 buildings in the city had been demolished during the last three years following declaring them 'most dangerous.'

FOUR MURDERED: Four people, including two women, were murdered over rivalry by their close relatives in different incidents here on Monday. Police said Manzoor Ahmad stabbed to death his brother Maqsood Ahmad and his wife 'I' as they had told him about the 'bad character' of (Manzoor's) his wife in Ahmadnagar, Wazirabad.

The bodies of the slain had been buried in the compound of their house by the accused. Shahbaz Ahmad was shot dead by his rival over enmity at Dilawer Cheema village.

He was on his way to the outhouse when Muhammad Usman and his accomplices opened fire on him, killing him on the spot. Rukhsana Bibi, the mother of three children, was gunned down by her brother-in-law over a petty row in Bhadey village, Naushera Virkan.

FIRE: A godown of a rice mills caught fire here on Monday as a result gunny bags worth hundreds of thousands of rupees were reduced to ashes in Kamoki. Muhammad Sharif had stored gunny bags at his godown. Someone threw a cigarette from the window in the godown. The mills workers and people of the area put out the fire after two-hour efforts.

ARRESTED: A councillor was arrested here on Monday by Garjakh police on charges of extorting amount from a woman for helping her in connection with the registration of a case. Ramzan Bhatti allegedly extorted Rs10,000 from Rashida for the registration of a case. Police on receiving information arrested him and registered a case.

BISE: The Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Gujranwala, will return the half fee of those candidates who have deposited double fee for the secondary school supplementary examinations before July 26.

According to board secretary Mohammad Anwar, the BISE authority has extended the last date for submitting admission forms from July 20 to 26 with single fee. Earlier, scores of candidates had deposited double fee after the expiry of date (July 20).

The board secretary directed the candidates that they should contact the receipt and dispatch section of the board to get a proforma for the return of the fee.
