MULTAN: PML labour wing leader shot dead

MULTAN, Sept 10: A PML labour wing leader was gunned down here on Friday morning over alleged business rivalry.

Rana Muhammad Akmal, also a councillor, was asleep at his home at Khushhal Colony in New Multan police station precinct when five people came there and opened fire on him with Ak-47 rifle. He died on the spot.

The assailants later fled away by two motorbikes parked outside the deceased's home. Police have registered a case against Rana Asghar, Rana Akbar, Bashir alias Bashira (an alleged proclaimed offender), and three unidentified assailants.

It is learnt that Rana Akmal and Rana Akbar operated vans from the local general bus stand and had developed some kind of business rivalry over routes.

Heirs of the deceased alleged that Rana Asghar had killed Akmal at the behest of his (Asghar's) brother Rana Akbar. The police have yet to arrest any of the nominated accused. The deceased was said to be the Multan division president of the PML labour wing.
