KHAIRPUR: Three killed in accident
KHAIRPUR, Sept 14: Three riders of a motorcycle were killed and another was injured when a bus hit their motorcycle at Jalal Chodagi on Khairpur- Nawabshah road on Monday night. The passenger bus (P-0095), in an attempt to overtake a truck, hit the motorcycle.
As a result, Imdad, 29, Manzoor Hussain, 30, and Abdul Aziz, 35, all Majidano by caste, were killed on the spot and Mehboob Machhi was injured. The bus driver escaped after the accident. Abdul Hafiz Majidano has lodged an FIR against unidentified drivers of the truck and bus with the Faiz Ganj police who have impounded both the vehicles.
SIT-IN: Scores of villagers, carrying the body of murdered excise constable Sultan Wassan, staged a sit-in on the National Highway bypass near Drib Mehar Shah village on Tuesday and closed it for vehicular traffic for three hours.
As Wassan was coming to his village from Khairpur, he was intercepted by some armed men. He sped up his motorcycle which slipped as a result he was killed and his companion Hizbullah Shaikh injured.
The protesters were demanding arrest of the armed men. Later, PPP MPA Nawab Wassan arrived at the place of the sit-in and told the protesters that police had promised to arrest the armed men within 48 hours.
On his intervention, the protest was called off. DPO Imran Yaqub Minhas said that police had arrested four suspects namely Tharu Shah, Faiz Mohammad Thebo, Mohib Ali Thebo and Waseem Rind.
WATER THEFT CASE: The assistant engineer, Faiz Ganj irrigation sub-division, Ghulam Nabi Babar, has lodged a water theft case against 19 farmers at the Faiz Ganj police station.
The farmers were allegedly involved in tampering with watercourses. Amir Gul Pato, Bashir Ahmad Pato, Mahar Din Pato, Mukhtiar Ahmad Ratar, Mureed Kalhoro and Ghulam Ali Lashari were among those nominated in the FIR.
CONGRATULATION: Pakistan People's Party chairperson Benazir Bhutto has congratulated Bachal Shah Jilani on being elected the president of the District Bar Association, Khairpur, for the eighth consecutive term.
