SHEIKHUPURA: Strike against DCO enters sixth day

SHEIKHUPURA, Sept 14: The strike by women members of the district council entered its sixth day in front of the DCO office here on Tuesday.

The councillors were protesting against District Coordination Officer Tariq Najeeb Najmi for not releasing the budget, particularly development funds already approved by the house some two and a half months ago.

The protesters, led by Suriya Fatima, told newsmen that they would continue the strike till the acceptance of their demands. Meanwhile, district Nazim Chaudhry Tawakkalullah Virk and Naib Nazim Zahid Yaseen alleged that the stubborn disposition of the DCO was hampering the development of the area.

The district Nazim said the local government elections were scheduled to be held during the next few months. All the uplift projects had been stopped and they would not be in a position to face their voters, Mr Virk said.

It is worth-mentioning that the district council in a special session had passed a unanimous resolution demanding the removal of the DCO for his non-cooperation in running the affairs of the district government. When DCO Tariq Najmi was contacted, he refused to express his views.
