LARKANA: Rs180m development projects okayed

LARKANA, Sept 16: The district development working party approved on Thursday schemes worth Rs180 million in the health and education sectors.

The committee, which met here with the DCO Larkana in the chair, also approved a three-year Community-Supported Healthcare System project that would be completed at a cost of Rs20 million.

District Officer (planning) Ghulam Mustafa Soomro said that under the schemes, healthcare facilities would be provided at remote areas where small health units would be set up in the initial phase.

Buildings for the health outlets would be provided by the area people, while the district government would appoint doctors and paramedical staff to run them. The district government would bear the expenses of doctors and paramedical staff and would assess their performance on an yearly basis.

The executive development officer (health) had been asked to advertise the project, Mr Soomro said. About 21 Basic Health Units would be renovated in the ditrict at a cost of Rs16 million besides construction of three emergency units (casualty departments) in Dokri, Kambar and Mirokhan would be undertaken at a cost of Rs9 million.

He said that three musafirkhanas would be built at the Shaikh Zayed Hospital for Women, Chandka Medical College and its city block at a cost of Rs3.95 million.

In the education sector, the committee has cleared a scheme for providing buildings to 94 shelterless schools along with the construction of 100 additional classrooms in elementary secondary schools.
