SIALKOT: Govt urged to regularize teachers
SIALKOT, Sept 17: The Punjab Teachers Union (PTU) has urged the government to end recruitments on an ad hoc basis and regularize all those appointed on contract.
PTU President Raja Zafeer Ahmad Satti and provincial information secretary Abdul Rashid Nagra said at a meeting of the central executive committee here on Friday that recruitment on contract was exploitation of educated youth who mostly belonged to the poor and middle classes.
They demanded that fresh recruitments should be made on regular basis besides regularization of service of adhoc teachers. They said the meeting unanimously adopted resolutions on inordinate delay in setting up of the Pay and Pensions Committee by the government was creating unrest among the teachers.
They urged the president and the prime minister to announce establishment of the committee as promised by the government on the eve of announcement of the federal budget.
They also demanded immediate formation of special committees at district and provincial levels comprising representatives of teachers and education department officials besides reviving teachers grades, move-overs and promotions on additional educational qualification.
They demanded concession in examination fee for teachers' children and abolition of the condition of getting NOC for local migration (from one to another school). PTU women wing president Syeda Mubashara Abbas and Mehr Habibullah also addressed the meeting.
