GILGIT: NALC polls boycott threatened
GILGIT, Sept 20: Over 4,000 voters belonging to Nomal village, some 35kms north of here, said they would vote for the candidate in NA-I who would have their occupied land vacated.
They alleged that the local administration had occupied their 2,700 kanals of land for the construction of the Karakoram International University Campus. The villagers said they were expelled from Chilmisdas on June 10, 2004, and their houses were razed to restore land to the university without giving them any compensation.
They threatened with boycott of the forth coming Northern Areas Legislative Council elections if candidates failed to meet the demand. The villagers claimed that their constituency played a vital role in elections, where at least 17 candidates participating in the polls.
