10 killed in Mianwali accident

MIANWALI, Sept 20: Ten passengers were killed and six seriously injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a passenger wagon on the Mianwali-Multan Road, some 20km from here.

The wagon was completely destroyed and bodies were taken out by cutting the wagon's body. The Bhakkar-bound air-conditioned bus was coming from Rawalpindi when it collided with the Mianwali-bound wagon near Golleywala village. Six wagon passengers died on the spot, one succumbed to injuries on way to hospital and three during the process of getting medical aid.

Only three of the dead were identified as Mohammad Saeed and Ghulam Ali of Mianwali and Ghulam Abbas of Bhakkar. The driver of the wagon was in critical condition whereas the bus driver escaped.

A passenger with broken legs told this correspondent that apparently a deranged man had hurled a stone at the wagon which scared the driver who lost control of the vehicle and rammed into the bus.
