SAHIWAL: Case against seven policemen - Torture of trader

SAHIWAL, Sept 21: On the orders of judicial magistrate, police on Tuesday registered a case against the Kassowal SHO, an ASI and five constables for illegally detaining a trader and subjecting him to torture.

Reports said the police arrested Muhammad Farooq from Chak 116/12-L for his alleged involvement in a theft case on May 15, 2004. He was kept under illegal detention for two days during which SHO Inspector Ejaz Mubashar, ASI Rana Muhammad Ashraf and five constables Habib Ahmed, Muhammad Ashraf, Muhammad Yaseen, Khalid Mahmood and Tariq allegedly tortured the trader.

Abdul Rehman, the brother of Farooq, filed a compliant with Judicial Magistrate Malak Nisar Ahmed against police torture. The court ordered constitution of a board for his medical examination which confirmed torture. The case was registered under Sections 337, A-2, and L-2 with no arrest till the filing of this report.

ROBBERIES: Robbers looted valuables worth more than Rs1.6 million in three incidents here on Tuesday. Near Chak 138/9-L on the GT Road, Yawar Mitro of Vehari was deprived of his car (MNA-7777) and cash worth Rs55,000 by robbers. Some unidentified men tied driver Rafiq and watchman Ghafoor with a rope and drove away with a tractor (SLH-1633) from a cotton factory in Chak 74/4-R. Four armed men made off with valuables amounting to Rs250,000 from a house in Farid Town.

KILLED: Three people were killed and four injured in two road accidents here on Tuesday. Near River Sukh Bias on the Sahiwal-Pakpattan Road, a motorcycle-rickshaw (PKA-349) fell into a ditch killing Imdad Hussein and Siddique on the spot while Farzand, Mangat, Kausar and Robina sustained injuries. A car ran over and killed an unidentified man on the GT Road.
