DERA GHAZI KHAN: JI teams halted in Dera

DERA GHAZI KHAN, Sept 30: The Punjab police halted for some three hours Jamaat-i-Islami delegations in the limits of the DG Khan district which were going to attend the party's congregation in Peshawar.

JI Naib Amir and MMA's Sindh president Asadullah Bhutto conducted a news conference here on Thursday during his transit stay to condemn the stoppage of vehicles which were heading towards Peshawar. Dera tehsil Nazim Hafiz Khalid Rauf and JI tehsil amir Usman Farooq were also present on the occasion.

He protested against the district administration of DG Khan and the Punjab police for halting vehicles carrying JI activists of Garhi Yaseen, Sindh, to Peshawar. He termed the act a conspiracy against the opposition and democratic forces.

Mr Bhutto also sent protest telegrams to the interior ministry, the chief minister and the prime minister. He further said that the police officer at the Triman check post had asked the workers that he was bound to stop them on the direction of higher authorities. Later on, the police allowed the delegations to continue their journey to Peshawar.
