SHEIKHUPURA: Baloch for release of Nankana lawyers

SHEIKHUPURA, Oct 6: MMA deputy secretary general Liaquat Baloch has lamented the arrest of four senior lawyers of Nankana in a false case. Mr Baloch was addressing the District Bar Association, Sheikhupura, on Wednesday.

He claimed that the case was registered against them to please a high ranking official. He denied any attack on Gurdawara Janam Asthan or any other property of the Sikh community by the students.

He said a lawyers convention would be held in Lahore on Thursday to express solidarity with the detained Nankana bar members. Mr Baloch strongly condemned restriction on three lawyers who are heart patients.

They are; Barkat Ali, Ghayoor Rana and Ali Asghar. "The ban on their meeting with their relatives and counsel and depriving them of medical facilities are against the constitution," he added.

He demanded their immediate release otherwise the matter would be placed before the National Assembly. Later, Mr Baloch went to the district jail to meet the lawyers but jail officials did not allow him to see them.
