FAISALABAD: Two students held while roaming in Church

FAISALABAD, Oct 8: The district police took into custody two students of a seminary for entering into a Church without permission and their alleged suspected activities, here on Friday.

Information gleaned by this correspondent revealed that two youths entered the main Church of Warispura and started roaming in the school adjacent to the worship place. The security guard on duty overpowered both the boys and informed the area police that two suspects had been nabbed trying to plant a bomb in the Church.

Heavy police contingents immediately reached the spot and took into custody both the young boys and shifted them to People's Colony police station. The arrested boys identified themselves as Akhtar Husain (21) of Swat and Gul Shireen (20) of Peshawar (both students of Madressah Darulaloom at Batala Colony).

They told the police that they were students of the seminary and not linked with any organization. Nor had they any nefarious design in mind, they added. According to them, as Friday was the weekly holiday from the seminary, they visited the commercial area of Warispura to purchase shoes.

"We saw the beautiful building of the Church and entered into it just to see the grounds and verandahs of the building. But the security guard declared us suspects," they said.

The SP (city), along with a team of an agency, surprisingly inspected the luggage of the students residing in the seminary but no objectionable item was recovered during the thorough search.

Meanwhile, the Friday prayers were offered in the city mosques and its rural areas amid tight security. Special teams comprising notables, policemen and the representatives of local councils performed the security duty at the main gates of mosques and Imambargahs.

Suspects were allowed to enter the mosques after body search through metal detectors. District Police Officer Muhammad Amin Wains and other senior police officials personally visited the mosques and monitored the security arrangements.

The DPO said all the religious programmes had been cancelled in the district as precautionary measures and the scholars and management of seminaries and mosques asked to keep a vigil on the activities of suspects.
