LTTE in no hurry to free soldiers

COLOMBO, Oct 13: International truce monitors in Sri Lanka have hinted that issue involving the abduction of two government paramilitary force members by the Tamil Tigers may take time to resolve.

Hagrup Haulkand, the deputy head of the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM), said the LTTE seemed disinterested in clearing the issue in a hurry despite the government action to grant bail to eight LTTE members.

The LTTE had demanded release of their cadres in government custody in exchange for the release of the two guards, a demand that was earlier refused by the government. However the Public Security Ministry announced on Monday that 10 LTTE cadres had been granted bail.
