SUKKUR: Workshop on revenue-sharing formula

SUKKUR Oct 13: A consultative workshop on the institutional development of revenue sharing was held here on Wednesday, which was organised by the Provincial Finance Commission.

District Nazim Nasir Hussain Shah presided over the workshop. Team leader Inam-ul-Haque and chartered accountants Avais Hyder and Nauman Rizwani explained the objectives of the workshop.

They stressed the need for initiating a dialogue among relevant sections on methodology, criteria and procedures used by the Provincial Finance Commission in working out a formula for distribution of resources.

They invited suggestions from the participants for any alternative course of action. They should include indicators which could form the basis for distribution of resources like population, deprivation, revenue generation and expenditure reduction.

They said basic principles to be followed by the Provincial Finance Commission should be based on the fiscal need, fiscal capacity, fiscal effort and performance. Sukkur DCO Abdul Qadir Mangi said that there was a need for reviewing and debating the financial issues in order to achieve the desired results.

DCO Jacobabad, the director of the Institute of Business Administration Sukkur and EDOs of finance and revenue of Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad, Ghotki, Shikarpur and Khairpur districts participated in the workshop. They presented their suggestions, comments and recommendations about the resource distribution.

PR: The Pakistan Railways has added the Sukkur railway station to the network of the computerized ticketing and reservation systems. The reservation office has been connected with Peshawar, Karachi Cantonment and Karachi City through the online computer network, according to a press statement issued here on Wednesday. Passengers can now purchase their tickets from any of the above locations to any other station on the network.
