Hockey hero honoured

KARACHI, Oct 14: Pakistan's penalty corner specialist Sohail Abbas on Thursday was honoured by his organization - Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) - for creating new world record of 268 goals.

Sohail broke the mark of 267 goals set by Dutchman Paul Litjens during the 7th match of the eight match series in Amritsar against India on Oct 8. A grand reception was given to Sohail by the employees.

Managing Director SSGC Munawar Baseer Ahmed, sports in-charge Zubair Ahmad greeted and received Sohail. The managing director announced a gold medal for the full-back and confirmed his employment with the company.

SSGC chief said besides playing for SSGC, Sohail's expertise as coach would also be utilized to train budding players of the organization's team. Meanwhile, Pakistan hockey team members Adnan Maqsood and Zeeshan Ashraf have been inducted in Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) team.

"We have inducted Olympian Zeeshan and international Adnan and both have been appointed as junior officers," chief sports officer Zubair Ahmed said on Thursday. SSGC already have Sohail Abbas, Ishtiaq Mobeen, junior internationals Shabbir Ahmed Khan and Mudassar Abbas. -APP
