GUJRANWALA: Four students arrested for rioting

GUJRANWALA, Oct 15: Police on Friday booked 30 students and arrested four of them for setting a bus on fire after the death of one of their fellows on the GT Road.

Reports said that students of Government College, Gujranwala, blocked the road and set the bus on fire on Thursday when its driver ran over third year student Faisal Haider.

The police had to resort to baton-charge for the restoration of traffic suspended for some 40 minutes while the fire fighters doused the fire. Police have registered a case against the bus crew and some 30 students while four of them - Muhammad Irfan, Gulfam Ahmad, Imran and Muhammad Tufail were arrested.

Protesting against the police, the students said that police had booked their fellows instead of arresting the bus crew. They demanded that their college fellows should be released besides withdrawing the case against them immediately.

REJECTED: The bail application of an excise inspector was rejected by the anti-corruption court here on Friday. Akhter Salik had received Rs23,000 from complainant Mubarik Ali to clear tokens of his tractor. But he did not do the needful. The ACE had arrested him after registering a corruption case against him.
