JACOBABAD: Jacobabad jail clashes leave 61 injured

JACOBABAD, Oct 29: Sixty-one people - 20 constables and 41 jail inmates - were injured in clashes between two groups of prisoners and between police in the district jail of Jacobabad on Friday.

When the jail authorities opened barracks on Friday morning, prisoners belonging to the Jakhrani and Buledi groups attacked each other after a prisoner's meal had been snatched by some prisoners of the other group.

A complaint was made to the jail authorities, but their failure to act promptly enraged the prisoners of both the groups. They climbed over the barrack walls and started pelting personnel of jail police with stones. Thirty prisoners were injured in clashes between the tow groups and 20 policemen in the clash between the inmates and police.
