HARIPUR: Treatment plants in industries sought

HARIPUR, Oct 29: The Haripur NGO Forum (HNF) has called upon industrialists of the Hattar Industrial Estate (HIE) to set up treatment plants in their industries so that effects of toxic effluents and emissions on the eco system could be checked.

The NGO forum also sought industrialists' financial cooperation in carrying out facelift of all the roundabouts of the city. In this regard a meeting was held at Hattar on Thursday, which was attended by Wajid Afridi, president of Haripur Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Babar Mehmood Sheerazi president of Industrialists Association Hattar, Malik Ashiq Awan and Syed Ibrar Shah executive director of Rural Development Project (RDP), Omar Javed of Sungi and representatives from Hadaf, Kato Centre, Save the Children USA and Farm Forestry Project.

The representatives of the NGOs apprised the industrialists in detail about the damaging impact of untreated industrial waste and emissions on the human health and biological earthlings and urged them to install treatment plants in their respective units.

The representatives of the HNF also sought their financial help in a beautification plan of all the major chowks of Haripur city, which the HNF was contemplating to finance jointly.

The industrialists were offered to install their signboards carrying name, location and advertisements of their respective brands on these beautified chowks on the pattern of Islamabad.
