HYDERABAD: Protest against police 'excesses'

HYDERABAD, Nov 17:A large number of residents of the Kotri SITE area, including women, staged a sit-in outside the press club here on Wednesday to protest against Kotri ADPO Mazhar Shaikh and the SHO.

Speaking on the occasion, the leaders of the SITE Area Residents' Action Committee, Shabbir Magsi, and others accused the Kotri police of firing on the faithful who were offering Eid prayers on the Gharo Goth ground.

They said that their houses were being raided by police and five persons had been arrested. They demanded action against the ADPO and the SHO and release of arrested persons.

EXENORATED: The Hussainabad police exonerated Matli Taluka Nazim Asghar Halepoto of the charges of shooting at and injuring two boys playing cricket outside his residence.

Pervez, 15, and Ahsan, 12, sustained bullet injuries on Friday when they were allegedly fired upon by Halepoto. He was booked in the case lodged by the elder brother of injured boys.

The police detained the nazim who was then hospitalized after being remanded to police custody by the judicial magistrate-13 for six days. During the investigation, he was let off in the case under section 497 of the CrPC by investigating officer Kareem Chachar on Saturday.
