GUJRANWALA: Worker dies in Gujranwala shoe factory fire
GUJRANWALA, Nov 17: A worker was burnt alive when a shoe factory caught fire on Mian Sansi Road here on Wednesday. Reports said the chemical dumped in a factory's room caught fire when someone threw a cigarette there. Within no time, the fire engulfed the entire building reducing shoes and machinery to ashes.
Worker Yasin of Muridke suffered serious burn wounds and died on way to hospital. The fire brigade and the area people put out the fire after a struggle of some two hours. The estimate of loss was being assessed by owner Mushtaq.
LOOTED: Armed bandits looted a factory, two houses, injured two watchmen during dacoity bids and also took away a car in four strikes in and around the city here on Wednesday.
Around six outlaws entered the factory of Muhammad Zahid by scaling its boundary wall in Ghania, Kamoke. They injured with clubs watchmen Taj Khan and Muhammad Khan on resisting and then locked them in a room. Later, they collected Rs150,000 in cash, prize bonds worth Rs50,000, jewellery and other valuables and escaped.
Some eight bandits barged into the house of Hafiz Khalil in Muhammadpura, Kamoke. They held hostage the inmates, locked them in a room, gathered 20 tolas of gold, Rs100,000 in cash, and dowry of two sisters and escaped.
At least four dacoits sneaked into Mushtaq's house in Habibpura. They injured Mushtaq on resistance, collected Rs110,000 in cash, jewellery and other valuables and escaped with the booty.
Around half a dozen robbers set up a picket on Pasrur Road. They intercepted the car of Shehzad Ahmad and his friend Iqbal at gunpoint. They snatched Rs20,000 in cash, two mobile phones and other valuables from them. Later, the outlaws drove away their vehicle after throwing them in a nearby field.
THRASHED: Members of a Wasa recovery team were beaten up by defaulters when they went to arrest them in Thanewala Bazaar here on Wednesday. The team conducted raids on the residences of two defaulters - Faisal Mahmood and Qaiser Mahmood to arrest them, but they thrashed them with clubs and fists. Police have registered a case against the accused and are investigating.
