NAWABSHAH: Inquiry into death of patient ordered
NAWABSHAH, May 25: An enquiry has been ordered into the death of a patient caused by alleged negligence of a nurse, Medical Superintendent, Peoples Medical College Hospital, Dr Ali Nawaz Khoso, told Dawn on Friday.
A patient, 22, whose name could not be ascertained, expired in second week of May in surgical-I ward of the hospital due to alleged negligence of a staff nurse.
Sources said that the patient was supposed to be administered an intra-muscular pain-killer injection but the injection was mistakenly administered into a vein due to which the patient expired in 15 minutes.
The MS said that he had ordered an inquiry the report of which would be submitted to him in seven days.
When contacted, nursing superintendent, PMCH, Ms Bilquees, said that the MS had formed a committee of senior doctors to conduct an enquiry into the matter.
She expected that after the inquiry report, disciplinary action would be taken against the nurse concerned.
Earlier, another patient, whose name could not be ascertained, expired in gynae ward of the hospital on May 1 due to negligence of nurses.
The woman was administered a fast doze of injection by a nurse Nazira and staff nurse Shamim Naz.
Nazira’s service was terminated and Shamim Naz was awarded a major punishment? by the medical superintendent after an enquiry which found both the nurses guilty of negligence.
