LARKANA, Nov 28: A polio case has been detected in the district whereas stool samples of six children suspected to have been inflicted with the disease, have been sent to an Islamabad laboratory for confirmation.
This was disclosed by EDO (health) Dr Ahmed Bakhsh Bhutto while briefing a meeting held here on Saturday to review preparations for the anti-polio campaign to be held from November 30 to December 2.
He told the meeting that to achieve the target of administering anti-polio drops to 406,062 children below the age of five years, 1,154 teams had been formed and 80 union councils of the district divided into 35 zones.
Presiding over the meeting, District Nazim Khursheed Ahmed Junejo directed the health and education departments to come forward to make the campaign a success. The NGOs and elected representative at union council level could play an important role in ensuring that a maximum number of children was administered anti-polio drops, he said
When contacted, district officer (health) Dr Khalil Kaptar said that a one-year-old boy, Mohammed Mithal, son of Mohammed Khan Taggar, resident of Hessab Chandio village, had been inflicted with polio.
The cases of six suspects suffering from acute flaccid paralysis had been referred to the laboratory for confirmation whether or not they had been suffering from polio, he added.
