HYDERABAD: SHC issues warrants against SP

HYDERABAD, Dec 1: The Sindh High Court, Hyderabad bench, on Wednesday issued bail able warrants against the SP, investigations, Pir Fareed Jan Sarhandi, in the sum of Rs25,000 for not appearing before the court despite a court order.

The SP had been asked to explain a circular issued by the regional police officer, Hyderabad, on Oct 20 regarding disposal of cases as 'B' and 'C' class. The SP had not turned up in the court on Nov 24.

Sindh AAG Masood A. Noorani informed the court that he had communicated the court order of Nov 24 to the SP by telephone. The prosecution inspector attended the court along with some letters regarding disposal of cases as 'B' and 'C' class.

Five office-bearers of the Crescent Food Industries Workers Union had filed a joint petition, citing SHO Sakhi Pir and Mohammad Sadiq as respondents. They said 72 workers had been working in the factory for many years but respondent Mohammad Sadiq had not issued employment cards to them. They said only 14 of the labourers had been shown to have been working.

They said when they formed a union, the owner started harassing them and formed a 'pocket' union. They alleged that the owner managed a fake strike and showed that the property was damaged which led to registration of a false case against them at the Sakhipir police station.

They said the SHO had not challenged the case for more than two months. They said the factory management had called police to stop the labourers from entering the factory. They alleged that police and the factory management were using the FIR as a tool of harassment. They prayed the court to quash the FIR. The court fixed the matter for Dec 3.
