Musharraf says he is open to talks with India

SAO PAULO, Dec 1: President Gen Pervez Musharraf has reaffirmed that he is open to negotiations with India on Kashmir and has not put forth a concrete proposal on independence , he said in an interview published on Wednesday in the daily O Estado de Sao Paulo.

Asked about Pakistan-India negotiations, and Indian opposition to any division or independence for Kashmir, President Musharraf said Pakistan was open to negotiations and prepared to settle the dispute but that the two sides should be flexible and sincere to reach an agreement.

He said he had no specific proposal on independence. Gen Musharraf, who had paid a four-day visit to Brazil, also praised India's decision to withdraw 3,000 soldiers from the region. -AFP
