NAWABSHAH, Dec 3: To mark the International Day of the Disabled, walks were held in different cities of Sindh on Friday. Speakers at different places called on the government to provide jobs to special people to enable them to serve the nation.

Members of the Sindh Disabled Welfare Association observed a black day here on occasion of the International Day of the Disabled. They also observed a token hunger strike outside the press club and staged a demonstration in protest against the non-provision of jobs to them as per two per cent quota.

They said being the most disadvantaged segment of society, people with disabilities were given a two per cent job quota by the Zia government but since then no government had implemented it.

They said jobs allocated for them under the quota system had been given to people without disabilities. They called upon legislators to revise the quota policy. They urged the government to announce a special package for them from zakat funds.

MIRPURKHAS: Special people held a walk here, in which teachers of special children, representatives of non-government organizations, and citizens also participated.

The walk began from the Mehran Special Education Centre to culminate at the Chandni Chowk. The participants carried banners and placards as they marched through main thoroughfares of the city.

Later, a ceremony was held at the centre, where speakers called for taking practical measures for rehabilitation of the disabled so that they could play their role in serving the country, adding that special people deserved special care and attention.

SUKKUR: A walk was held here in which activists of NGOs, students and teachers of local schools for blind, deaf and dumb children and others participated. Speaking on the occasion, the teachers urged the people to take extra care of special children to save them from sense of deprivation.
