SAHIWAL: Case against inspector, UC Nazim

SAHIWAL, Dec 9: Farid Town police on Thursday registered a case against a union council Nazim and an inspector for misusing powers and snatching a camera from a local journalist after three months.

Malik Ghulam Abbas had taken photographs of the women dancers on the eve of urs of Baba Chhinj in Kot Khadim Ali Shah on Sept 8. The journalist was on his way back when inspector Rehmat Ali and Kot Khadim Ali Shah's UC Nazim Tahir Habib snatched camera from him and passed murder threats.

The police refused to register a case against the accused when the newsman approached the police station. Later, Malik Abbas filed a writ petition in the court of additional sessions judge Khalid Naveed Dar on whose direction the case was registered against the accused.

KILLED: A man and his sister were killed on Thursday in an accident on Sahiwal-Pakpattan Road near Shah Bias bridge. Sajjad Ahmed and his sister Sakeena were going to Chak 81/D by their motorcycle (PKA-2110) when it skidded off. Both of them fell on the ground and died on the spot. Police have registered a case.

25-YEAR JAIL: A local court on Thursday handed down 25 years hard jail each to a man and his son for killing a youth on a kite-flying issue. Convicts will have to undergo six-month additional hard jail if they fail to pay Rs100,000 each as compensation.

The judge acquitted Acchu, Azhar, Amin, constable Amir and Mst Faizan for lack of evidence. The court also awarded five years rigorous imprisonment and Rs10,000 fine each to three accused - Asif, Akram and Aslam for injuring two witnesses, Zafar and Akram. According to the prosecution, convicts Nawaz and his son Ashraf had clubbed to death Ghulam Murtaza in Chak 91/9-L on Feb 25, 2001.
