MULTAN: Students turn violent after fellow's death
MULTAN, Dec 10: Vehicular traffic on the Multan-Lahore road remained suspended for almost three hours as interns of a technical education institute turned violent after a fellow was crushed by a bus here on Friday.
Adnan Anjum, a student of a diploma class at the BZU College of Textile Engineering, was crushed when he tried to board the moving bus near the college on Khanewal Road. He died on the spot.
The death shocked the other students who were also waiting for a conveyance at the bus stop after the college. The boys took possession of the body and started gathering around while driver of the bus reportedly fled from the scene abandoning the vehicle.
The protesters later torched the bus and pelted stones at other passing vehicles. They blocked the Multan-Lahore road by placing hurdles on it. A police contingent rushed to the place to control the situation. However, the angry students reportedly refused to end the blockade till arrest of the bus driver.
On it, police resorted to baton charge which caused injuries to a number of students and succeeded in opening the road. Police claimed to have arrested the bus driver, identified as Tariq. The body was later handed over to the family.
