MPs file old statements of assets in EC
ISLAMABAD, Dec 30: A majority of members of parliament have submitted exactly the same details of their property as they did last year while submitting their statements of assets and liabilities for the year 2004 to the Election Commission, an official of the commission told Dawn on Thursday.
The statement of assets and liabilities of the members of parliament showed that Foreign Minister Mian Khurshid Mehmood Kasuri is the richest member of the cabinet with total assets worth Rs303 million after Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz who ownes assets of Rs511.68 million.
The statement of assets issued by the commission showed Minister of State for Tourism Sumaira Malik (NA-69) as the wealthiest among women ministers with assets worth Rs75.3 million while her husband Malik Tahir Sarfraz has net assets of Rs60 million.
The aggregate worth of the assets of the couple reaches at Rs135.3 million. Her property includes agriculture land, houses, two cars, 50 tola gold, prize bonds, shares and cash in two bank accounts.
After Sumaira Malik, Federal Minister for Women Development and Special Education Zobaida Jalal (NA-272) owned property worth Rs59 million in the shape of joint ancestral agricultural and residential plots gifted by parents and husband and jewellery.
Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Anisa Zeb Tahir Kheli has declared total property worth Rs8.3 million in her statement of assets and liabilities.
Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz (NA-59) has assets of Rs511.685 million under different heads including foreign currency worth $2.4 million and pounds sterling 353,746 in the US and the UK.
The prime minister has no liability towards anyone. He has one house and one plot in Karachi; one apartment each in London and New York; two motor vehicles and jewellery. The prime minister has given a consolidated declaration and has not shown any separate property in the name of his spouse or dependents.
Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs Khurshid Mahmud Kasuri (NA-140) owns a property worth Rs303.5 million. He has three residential apartments in Lahore and Nathia Gali with an estimated market value of Rs55 million and agriculture land in Kasur worth Rs3 million.
Kasuri is running a chain of schools. He owns Beacon house schools across the country and has business capital worth Rs197.404 million in this chain. Kasuri also has investment in Rafhan Food products worth Rs40.88 million in addition to jewellery of Rs2 million. He has Rs4.6 million cash in hand and Rs625,206 in banks.
After Kasuri, Federal Minister for Industries and Production Jehangir Khan Tareen (NA-195) owns property worth Rs202.4 million. He also owes Rs70 million in loans taken from different banks.
His assets include different property in Islamabad, Multan, Lodhran, agricultural equipment's jewellery, motor cars, bank accounts etc. The life style and standard of living of our ministers are such that it is difficult for them to understand the plight of of the common man, another officer commented on condition of anonymity.
Former Prime Minister Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain (NA-105) has assets worth Rs73.83 million and no liability on his credit as compared to former prime minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali (NA-266) who showed assets worth Rs1.88 million that include 35 and 60 acres of irrigated land, 143,966 square feet of plot, 100 tolas of jewellery and some furniture. He earned a total income of Rs764,400 during 2003-04 as Prime Minister of Pakistan, Out of this amount he paid Rs114,560 as tax.
Federal Minister for Interior Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao has net assets of Rs5.27 million including shops and market in Charsadda and agriculture land with farm store and houses and cash of Rs2.7 million in banks.
His wife Nighat Aftab Sherpao possessed a total wealth in his name worth Rs14.5 million. While his children Sadaf Aftab, Mustafa Aftab and Huzaima Aftab have separate property in their names.
Federal Minister for Tourism Dr Syed Ghazi Gulab Jamal (NA- 39) has assets worth Rs10.7 million. His wife Dr Lubna Hassan is the proprietor of an under-construction women hospital in Hayatabad, Peshawar. Its estimated value is Rs6 million.
Federal Minister for Labour, Manpower and Overseas Pakistanis Ghulam Sarwar Khan (NA-53) has Rs51.1 million assets. He also owes Rs85,000 to Zari Tariaqiati Bank Limited (ZTBL).
Federal Information Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed (NA-55) has declared net property worth Rs21.9 million including houses, farm house, agriculture land and business capital.
Minister of State for Finance Division Omar Ayub Khan (NA- 19) has total assets of Rs24.4 million, the present declared value for these assets is Rs68.15 million. However, he has liabilities of Rs7.8 million. His property includes agriculture, non-agriculture land, houses, plots, stock shares, three motor vehicles, cash and furniture.
Minister of State for Water and Power Division Amir Muqam (NA-31) who deserted the MMA (Muttahida Majlis Amal) platform and later joined the government, has shown assets worth Rs78.7 million in his declaration.
However, he has not shown the present value of his property. He has also declared a mortgaged property of Rs20 million and has shown 16 vehicles whose total worth is Rs8.9 million. His assets also include Rs3.8 million in cash in banks.
Minister of State for Environment Division Malik Amin Aslam (NA-57) has assets of over Rs22 million in the name of his own and his wife. Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Dr Sher Afgan Khan Niazi has in moveable property worth Rs5 million, 12 tola Gold, Rs222,953 in bank accounts and furniture worth Rs120,000. He has no motor car, no business capital and no share in any sort of investment.
Federal Minister for Environment Maj (retd) Tahir Iqbal has Rs12.7 million. Federal Minister for Population Welfare Chaudhry Shahbaz Hussain (NA-62) and his dependents are the owners of assets worth Rs81.7 million, including a house and restaurant based in the UK and Saudia Arabia.
Federal Minister for Law and Justice Wasi Zafar (NA-76) has gross assets worth Rs26.24 million. Minister of State for Education Division Ghulam Bibi Bharwana (NA-87) has assets worth Rs39.35 million. He also has some liabilities; He owes Rs500,000 to Habib Bank and about Rs800,000 to ZTBL.
Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs Makhdoom Syed Faisal Saleh Hayat has an agriculture land worth Rs28.3 million, business capital in Shah Jewna Textile Mills worth Rs1.7 million; 30 tola jewellery of Rs100,000 value, Rs950,000 cash in bank and furniture worth Rs300,000.
Minister of State for Law Chaudhry Shahid Akram Bhinder (NA- 97) has Rs18.7 million. He also has to pay back a loan of Rs1.2 million taken from Habib Bank. The net worth of his assets is Rs17.5 million.
Minister of State for Information Technology Ali Asjad Malhi (NA-113) has assets of Rs27.5 million. He also owed Rs2.5 million to banks as loan. Federal Minister for Commerce Humayun Akhtar Khan (NA-125) holds inherited one-fourths property share of Rs17.3 million. He has Rs110,748 in his three bank accounts. His wife also has Rs422,161 in two saving accounts.
Minister of State for Housing and Works Division Sardar Muhammad Asif Nakai (NA-141) has assets worth Rs15.5 million and a liability of Rs200,000 he owed to the ZTBL.
Senior Federal Minister Rao Sikandar Iqbal has property worth Rs41.8 million. Federal Minister for Information Technology Awais Ahmed Khan Leghari (NA-173) has assets worth Rs75 million against a liability of Rs1 million.
He also owns inherited lands worth Rs60 million and agriculture land of Rs4.3 million. He has investments of Rs7.8 million in stocks business and a motor vehicle worth Rs1.1 million.
Federal Minister for Education Lt-Gen (retd) Javed Ashraf owns property worth Rs26.5 million which includes different houses in defence housing phase-I, Morgah; AWT housing, Sangjani in Rawalpindi; Askari Vilas and other property in Lahore.
Minister of State for Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs, Mohammad Ali Durrani owns property whose present value is stated to be Rs17.4 million approximately against a liability of Rs2 million.
Minister of State for Interior Dr Shahzad Waseem owns Rs 46.5m property. It consists of Rs10 million worth residential house at Margalla Road, F-10/2; advance against two 1000 square yards plot at Gwadar worth Rs880,000 each, half share in orchard scheme on the Murree Road, Islamabad, worth Rs3.1 million, capital amount of Rs2.1 million in The Clinic Diagnostic Centre, defence saving certificates of Rs1 million, Rs 8.9m in cash, bank deposit of Rs895,964 and furniture and fittings worth Rs500,000.
Federal Minister for Ports and Shipping Babar Khan Ghauri owns property of Rs38.3 million. He inherited three residential houses in Karachi whose worth is Rs25 million, Rs5.5 million and Rs150,000, respectively.
Federal Minister for Privatization and Investment Dr Abdul Hafeez Sheikh owns property worth Rs26.2 million plus $100,000 worth investment in Soloman Smith Barney. He has property in Jacobabad, Khairpur, Lahore etc.
Minister of State for Economic Affairs Hina Rabbani Khar (NA-177) owns the total assets of Rs8.82 million comprising different ancestral land and plots, motor car and bank accounts etc.
Minister of State for Communications Engineer Shahid Jamil (NA-178) has Rs33.25 million assets consisting of inherited lands, different investments, jewellery, bank accounts, furniture, fittings and articles of personal use.
Federal Minister for Religious Affairs Mohammad Ijazul Haq (NA-191) has lands worth Rs67.8 million but he has not mentioned the monetary value of different properties in acres in Mianwali, Sheikhupura, Lahore and houses in Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Makhdoom Khusro Bakhtiar (NA-194) has mentioned the present value of his assets worth Rs18 million against a liability of Rs551,650 as loan from ZTBL.
Minister for State Local Government and Rural Development (NA-196) Chaudhry Zafar Iqbal Warriach owns property worth Rs31.4 million and $500,000 in the name of his wife.
Federal Minister for Narcotics Control Ghaus Bux Khan Mahar (NA-243) owns assets of Rs5.6 million against a liability of Rs1.3 million. His assets include agricultural lands, bank accounts, furniture etc.
Minister of State for Food, Agriculture and Livestock Muhammad Ali Malkani (NA-238) has Rs14.2 million assets that include residential houses, plots, agricultural lands, 40 tolas of jewellery, bank accounts, furniture and fixtures etc.
Federal Minister for Housing and Works Syed Safwanullah (NA- 251) has Rs6 million assets, including a residential plot of 400 square yards and agricultural land of 200 acres.
Federal Minister for Communications Muhammad Shamim Siddiqui (NA-257) owns assets the present value of which is Rs4.2 million which include residential property, defence saving certificates, jewellery, bank accounts, furniture and fixtures.
Federal Minister for States and Frontier Region Sardar Yar Mohammad Rind (NA-267) has assets worth Rs64.5 million plus $22,200. His property include scores of agricultural lands in different areas of Sindh, residential houses, motor cars (bullet proof car and jeep), jewellery worth 2.7 million, cash in hand Rs10 million and guns worth Rs600,000.
Federal Minister for Water and Power Liaquat Ali Jatoi (NA- 233) has property worth Rs10 million which comprised residential houses worth Rs4 million, cash and prize bonds Rs2.7 million, furniture and fittings Rs700,000, agriculture equipment Rs200,000 etc.
Minister of State for Religious Affairs Dr Aamir Liaquat Hussain (NA-249) has mentioned his wealth to the tune of Rs4.7 million against a liability of Rs1.8 million from banks to lease a flat.
Minister of State for Overseas Pakistanis Tariq Azeem Khan (Senator) has a family house and a car outside Pakistan the present value of which are pounds sterling 500,000 and pounds sterling 80,000, respectively.
He also has a business equity of pounds sterling 85,000 in the Lotus Sports Company UK, 65 tolas of jewellery worth Rs520,000 cash and prize bonds Rs486,000, pounds920, $265, bank amounts of pounds6780, Rs9,865 and furniture worth Rs180,000.
Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Raza Hayat Hiraj (NA-156) is the owner of Rs30 million property but he does not posses any car. Minister of State for Railways Division Ishaq Khan Khakwani (NA-168) has declared the total assets of Rs1.5 million. He has no investment in stock shares or saving certificates and keeps only Rs65,000 in his bank account.
