FAISALABAD: Demo against expulsion of agri varsity students

FAISALABAD, Jan 4: Students from various institutions on Tuesday staged a demonstration and blocked traffic in front of the Allied Hospital in protest against the expulsion of 26 students from the University of Agriculture.

The protesters were carrying banners and placards inscribed with slogans in favour of their demands. They marched on roads and raised slogans against the vice-chancellor.

They claimed that the students were being made scapegoats in a tussle between two groups of teachers and administrative officials. They said students were expelled the vice-chancellor just to teach a lesson to his rival group.

They claimed that there was no law and order problem on the campus, the charge on which the administration had expelled the students. Not even a minor clash took place between any student groups, they added.

The students of Islami Jamiat Tulba and the Inquilabi Council also held protest demonstrations. The university on Nov 25 expelled 26 students, including Islami Jamiat Tulba Nazim Akhtar Rasool and Inquilabi Council chairman Atiqur Rehman and imposed heavy fines on them for, what the administration claimed, creating law and order situation and taking part in political activities.
