LARKANA, Jan 14: Responding to the call of the Citizens' Action Committee, a complete strike was observed in Qambar on Friday, pressing the government to arrest policemen involved in the killing of four people.

All the main trade centres, offices, schools and colleges remained closed. Vendors and shopkeepers kept their business closed expressing solidarity with the action committee.

A large number of people took out a procession from the Anaj Mandi area. Action committee leaders Bhao Buriro, Hareef Chandio, Deedar Wadho and Nazeer Tunio led the protesters.

The protestors were wearing black armbands and carrying black flags. They burnt tyres at different places and erected barricades at entry and exist points of the town. They gathered at the Bakery chowk and raised slogans against the police.

They demanded the arrest of killers of four protestors. The police remained confined to the police station. Meanwhile, rallies were held in Shahdadkot and Qubo Saeed Khan on Friday, demanding shifting of the district headquarters from Qambar to Shahdadkot.

Shahdadkot District Forum leaders Mian Atta Mohammed Siddiqi and Mansoor Jarwar led the rally. The protesters marched on the main roads and converged at the Kotoo-motoo chowk.

They urged the Sindh government to shift the district headquarters from Qambar to Shahdadkot. They said if the Sindh government skipped from its earlier decision, the protest would continue.

DOCTORS BOYCOTT: Condemning the arrest of district dentist, doctors in the Chandka Medical College Hospital boycotted OPD for two hours on Friday. The Pakistan Medical Association has given the call to protest against the Shikarpur police for arresting Dr Aftab Rahujo.

They alleged that Dr Rahujo was being subjected to torture by police. The doctors boycotted regular OPDs in CMCH (city and teaching blocks), children hospital and Shaikh Zayed hospital for women.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Ikram Tunio and Dr Waheed Memon alleged that the DPO Shikarpur had arrested the doctor on instigation of a bigwig. They said the police, instead of focusing on safe recovery of judges, was pleasing his personal friend and making arrests.

They demanded suspension of the DPO and said the police was trying to divert the case only to cover up its failure in recovering judges. They said the PMA would expand its protest against police excesses.
