SUKKUR: LPG cylinder catches fire, eight injured

SUKKUR, Jan 15: Eight people, including two women, sustained serious burn injuries when fire broke out at the Jinnah Chowk here on Saturday because of a leaking liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinder.

LPG dealer Abdul Karim was busy selling gas cylinders when one of it leaked and he placed it on the roadside. In the meantime, someone threw a live match close to the leaking cylinder, as a result of which, fire broke out and engulfed the area.

Before fire fighters could reach the spot, Zahid, Amjad, Babar, Tahir, Abdul Jabbar, Abdul Hakeem, Haseena, and Zeenat were burnt. They were admitted to the Civil Hospital, Sukkur, where Haseena's condition was said to be serious.

Following a SSGC announcement regarding suspension of gas supply, people purchased gas cylinders in large quantities. However, no suspension of gas supply was witnessed in Sukkur and adjoining areas.
