GUJRANWALA: Four new towns in Gujranwala

GUJRANWALA, Feb 11: City and Sadar tehsil councils have formed four new towns - Khiali, Ghulshan Iqbal Park, Qila Dedar Singh and Upper Chenab under the new local bodies system.

While Nazims in each town would be elected during the forthcoming local bodies election, it was learnt here on Friday. The source said that the ruling party was supporting the local bodies system and various union councils of Sadar tehsil council were merged with the city tehsil council.

In any case, the PPP, PML-N and other political parties were opposing the decision. He said that the ruling party wanted to gain the maximum support of masses during the LB polls after changing the system by providing 'better' civic facilities to them.

SUSPENDED: Three sanitary workers of the city tehsil council deployed at Shaheenabad locality were suspended from service by the tehsil municipal officer on the charge of negligence.

While sanitary supervisor was served on a show-cause notice here on Friday. Those suspended were Mehanga Masih, Boota Masih and Nazir Masih. Residents of Shaheenabad had taken out a rally against the city tehsil council for its failure to clean the sewerage system on Thursday. Led by union council Nazim Mian Attiq, the protesters also paraded the GT Road.

BODIES RECEIVED: The bodies of three dacoits, who were killed in Aimanabad Morr during encounter two days ago, were received by their heirs at the DHQ Hospital here on Friday.

Bodies of two brothers Liaquat and Riasat were received by their father Muhammad Hussain. While the body of Imran alias Mani was received by his brother Irfan Ahmad.

Meanwhile, the police got a five-day physical remand of arrested dacoit Mudasser from a local court. While the second dacoit, Muhammad Arif, was sent to jail on judicial remand by the local Anti-Terrorism Court.

However, Gogey Shah, who rented his house to dacoits at Aimanabad Morr, disappeared after the incident. The three deceased constables were also buried in the presence of hundreds of mourners at their respective village graveyards. Meanwhile, the condition of injured ASI Obaid Ali and constable Imtiaz was stated to be out of danger in Mayo Hospital Lahore.
