GUJRANWALA: Division of Gujranwala opposed

GUJRANWALA, Feb 18: A group of union council Naib Nazims belonging to the Jamat Islami opposed the administrative division of the city into city government and district government , and forming of four towns consisting of urban and rural areas, demanding that the said formula be dropped.

Speaking at a news conference here on Friday, JI leaders Hafiz Hameed-ud-Din Awan, Muhammad Saeed Khokher and various UC Nazims apprehended that under the new formula, city resources would be transferred to rural areas.

They alleged that the ruling party ministers and parliamentarians wanted to establish their political monopoly in the city as well as in the rural parts of the district through this formula. Instead, they suggested that four towns should be formed in the jurisdiction of municipal corporation without division of executive powers and resources.

They demanded that an audit of district council and city tehsil council funds should be conducted before coming local bodies election. They also criticized WASA and city tehsil council's performance, saying that cleanliness system in the city had collapsed.
