RAWALPINDI: 'Schools to be surveyed for providing facilities'

RAWALPINDI, Feb 21: All government schools will be surveyed union council-wise to take stock of missing facilities, Punjab local bodies minister Raja Basharat said.

Speaking at a review meeting of Education Sector Reforms (ESR) project, he said all the missing facilities identified in the survey would be provided out of Rs147 million allocated for the purpose under the ESR this year.

"Efforts should be made to provide maximum facilities to all schools under the project," he said. The government would ensure that every school was provided with the facilities it lacked without any discrimination, the minister said.

The ESR, a donor agencies-funded project, is being administered by the provincial government. The development projects to be undertaken at the schools are identified by the respective provincial assemblies members, each of whom have been allocated a specific amount. The ESR grants are on annual basis.

Under the ESR, basic facilities like lavatories, furniture, drinking water, boundary walls are provided to the schools. In Murree and Kotli Sattian tehsils, the schools damaged by recent rains and snowfall would shortly be repaired under the project. "Work would begin as soon as the weather improves," the minister said.
