SAHIWAL: Cops held for freeing under-custody colleagues

SAHIWAL, Feb 23: Three police officers were arrested here on Wednesday for getting their under-custody colleagues released from the central jail on fake court orders.

Reports said Arif wala city inspector Shahzad Gul was consigned to the central jail for torturing a prisoner to death. Later, ASI Bashir Ahmed of Pakpattan police was arrested in a narcotics case and was on judicial remand.

Both the officials in connivance with Pakpattan and Arifwala court staff managed fake court production orders as a result the jail authorities released them. They went to their houses for one or two days. Later, both were brought back to the Sahiwal central jail by Pakpattan inspector Rana Ali Ahmed, ASI Javed Iqbal and head constable Zulfiqar Ali.

Meanwhile, the Pakpattan district and sessions judge conducted a raid at the judicial lockup and found them absent. On the orders of D&SJ, Shahzad Gul and Bashir Ahmed were arrested from their houses and sent to the central jail. Police have booked and arrested Rana Ali Ahmed, Javed Iqbal and Zulfiqar Ali and sent them to jail on 14-day judicial remand.
